Bird watching in El Paso

Description

El Paso's position between the United States and Mexico, National Park and National Park, and the massive Franklin Mountains State Park allows for some excellent birding. Some of the species you can expect to see any time of the year at all are the Clark's Grebe, the wire-perching Neotropic Cormorant, the Chihuahuan Raven, the Greater Roadrunner, the Phainopepla, the Say's and Black Pheobe, and the Golden Eagle. The rare Rufous-capped Sparrow is also found here.

The winter often brings the Chestnut-collared Longspur, the Vermillion Flycatcher, the American White Pelican, the Long-eared Owl, Townsend's Solitaire, and the Sage Thrasher. Summer brings the Burrowing Owl, the Scott's Oriole, the Indigo Bunting, and the Bell's Vireo.

The Davis Mountains act as a refuge to many of Texas's species, from the endangered Golden-cheeked Warbler and Black-capped Vireo to the common Painted Bunting and the Northern Mockingbird. The Mexican Spotted Owl, the Elf Owl, the Attwater's Prairie Chicken, the Muscovy Duck, and the Aplomado Falcon have all been sighted here.
