The irrigation of the Rio Grande Valley may not sound exciting, but this pumphouse functioned in just that way about a hundred years with astounding results. It's largely responsible for the lushness of the Lower Rio Grande as opposed to the steppe-like ranch-land it was before, this pumphouse, and it's home to the only remaining steam pumps in the United States.
This is also a World Birding Site. While you're outside the site, keep an eye out for exciting migrants in the nearby woodlands.
